HEALTH & WELLBEING
WAND aims to support women to take control of their own lives through improving their health and well being and increasing their self-esteem.
The Community Food Distribution Project opens every Tuesday at Saint Michael Church 35 St Lawrence Terrace, London W10 5SR for those who may be struggling to buy food.
Please arrive to register at 10am.
You will then be given a ticket and a time slot and asked to return to collect your food bag between 1pm and 2.30pm. In order to use the service, you will need to register.
Our Foodbank is usually closed on BANK HOLIDAYS
This can be done in person on the day but if you would like to fill in a form in advance please click here. The service is free; our clients choose what items they wish from our food variety.
We are unable to allow access to the church for the users, in order to maintain social distancing and safeguard our staff/volunteers; people will be asked to queue outside and will be called one by one to choose and collect what items they wish. We are lucky enough to work in partnership with St Michael church, City Harvest, Neighbourly, Bloody Good Period and Felix project.
What do we have at the church?
The open food distribution project prides itself in being unique to other foodbanks. We have fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy ready meals and other tins / long life food. We promote healthy eating during this project to provide long term health benefits for everyone.
Sanitary products and incontinence pads are also available through our Bleeding Hearts Project, in partnership with the Bloody Good Period organization. The cost of sanitary products is something which many women struggle to meet. The average cost of having a period is £4,800! We believe no woman should suffer the challenge of purely being a woman.
To help our women maintain their wellbeing, positive attitudes and reduce isolation and stress, WAND UK is offering free online dance sessions every Wednesday at 11 am. We have a weekly attendance of 10-12 people.
About our instructor AnaE
I have had passion for dancing and exercise since I began to walk. I absolutely love teaching Zumba classes and seeing the progress in others. Every class feels like a party, while getting fitter and healthier. I am a licensed Zumba teacher since November 2019.
The benefits of dance
Maintaining positive relationships may just rank up there with healthy eating and exercise. Being socially engaged leads to increased happiness, reduced stress, and a stronger immune system.
Feedback
Nilay: Dancing makes me happy and it lifts my spirit up. I find many dancing movements under Zumba classes are the best. Especially low impact is suitable for my age group. I also like challenge and join high impact as well.
In Covid-19 lock down online dancing movement and Zumba kept me going. I am grateful for that.
Merilyn: It was great makes my body to be active the whole day and feel happy. I feel so glad when I see other participants dancing together, it helped me feel less isolated.
Anastassia: The sessions made staying at home and lockdown bearable and definitely bring a breath of fresh air to the week.
